Toyota is looking to sell its first all-electric car, the i8, which it unveiled on Thursday at the Detroit auto show.
The car will start at $6.4 million, but it will cost an additional $2,000 for an all-wheel drive system and $4,500 for an electric option.
The automaker also plans to launch the electric version of its popular Lexus SUV, the RX, in 2020.
Its i8 SUV is expected to be more than three times the price of the RX sedan.
The price of a Lexus RX, the flagship of Toyota’s luxury brand, has been the subject of heated debate.
Toyota executives say the RX has a top-tier interior, but many critics question whether it is capable of handling the rigors of an urban driving environment.
The automakers will unveil the iX crossover later this year.
The company also is expected for a new all-new car, an SUV called the i5, which will go into production in 2021.
